Bryant, Naniseni Highlight LSSU Women’s Basketball Recruiting Class
SAULT STE. MARIE – Newberry’s Taylor Bryant and Mancelona’s Eileene Naniseni highlight Lake Superior State women’s basketball’s 2017 recruiting class.
A 5-6 guard, Bryant became Newberry’s all-time leading scorer for boys and girls this season, capping off her career with 1,472 points. A three-time Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference Player of the Year honoree and 2017 Associated Press Class C First Team All-State selection, Bryant averaged 19.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 6.5 steals and six points per game as a senior. She also was named the 2017 Straits Area Conference Player of the Year.
“Taylor is a tough, gritty guard with great vision and the ability to get into the paint and draw contact, as well as create opportunities for her teammates,” coach Kristen Rogers said in a statement. “Her competitiveness and drive set her apart and we look forward to seeing her bring that every day as a Laker.”
Naniseni is a 2017 AP Class C First Team All-State selection. The 6-2 center led the Ironmen to an 11-10 record in 2016-17 and a fourth-place finish in the Ski Valley Conference. The 11 wins Naniseni and Mancelona posted this season were more than double (four) their 2015-16 output.
Bryant and Naniseni are joined by Ashton Ellis (New Paris, Ind.), Ariel Spillner (Windsor, Wis.), Laura Stroud (Ypsilanti), Riley Collins (Manchester), Becca Villanueva (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Jenna Gregory (Freeland) and Sadie DeWildt (Midland).
