Cadillac’s Pyles Looks to Cap off Career with State Title

CADILLAC – Cadillac senior track and field athlete Liz Pyles is continuing on a strong tradition of Viking throwers.

After finishing third in the discus and shot put at the 2016 MHSAA Division 2 state finals, Pyles who owns the girls school records in both events, is setting the bar higher this spring, aiming for a 44-foot throw in the shot put and in the 145-150 foot range in the discus.

"It was really nice being up there, knowing that I will be able to reach the top next time. So that’s my goal, is first this year,” Pyles said. “I’m really hard on myself, and I need to make sure that I know what I’m doing, and if I mess up, I’ll tell myself, ‘Oh, you should’ve done better on this,’ or something. But, I feel like shot is going to be my big thing right now. So, I want to try to focus on that."

After graduating in the spring, Pyles will continue her track and field at Grand Valley State in the fall.
