Gaylord St. Mary’s Smith Announces Resignation
GAYLORD – Gaylord St. Mary girls basketball coach Dan Smith has announced that he resigning after five seasons, Smith confirmed to MISportsNow on Monday.
Smith, who plans to spend more time with his family, including coaching his 12-year-old son, guided the Snowbirds to a 103-18 record in five seasons. Under Smith, St. Mary won a pair of Ski Valley Conference titles, three district championships, two regional titles and twice appeared in the Class D state quarterfinals.
The Snowbirds went 21-3 in 2016-17, winning the Ski Valley Conference championship with a perfect 16-0 record before falling to Frankfort in a Class D regional semifinal.
