LSSU men’s hoops announces signees

The LSSU men’s basketball team announced the addition of Sam Cornett and Brandon Allen to its 2017 signing class.

A senior at Muskegon, Cornett led the Big Red to a 23-1 record this season, averaging 11 points per game. He ended his prep career with 853 points, averaging 12.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

A red-shirt transfer from Western Michigan, Allen graduated from Haslett in 2016 as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,654 points. Allen owns the program records for 3-pointers in a singles game (eight), season (74) and career (218), as well as career free throws (333).

“We are very excited about the two young men who have signed NLI’s to be a part of our family,” coach Steve Hettinga said in a statement. “Brandon is a very good point guard who is an extra coach on the floor. He will bring great depth to that position and is someone who plays much bigger than his size. Sammy is truly a Swiss army knife type player. He can do it all. We love his fight and determination. He will fit right in with how we play. The thing we like the most is that both of these players are even better people and will be great examples for our school and community.”
