TC West Looks to Build off Historic 2016 Campaign

TRAVERSE CITY – Fresh off making its first appearance in the state semifinals a year ago, the Traverse City West baseball program is picking up right where it left off.

After making history in 2016 by winning their first regional championship and knocking off No. 3 Bay City Western, No. 4 Rockford and honorable mention Saginaw Heritage in the postseason, the Titans opened their season by claiming the Coldwater tournament championship last weekend.

Falling 3-1 to eventual state champion Warren De La Salle in the Division 1 state semifinals last June, West returns a number of key contributor’s from a squad that finished 41-3.

"Our expectations and our goals stay the same, year in and year out. Those things don’t change,” coach Matt Bocian said. “Even though the run that we had, that was our goal and expectation last year, and you know, it’s going to stay the same."

While the Titans are now a target for a number of teams, and there’s still plenty of the season left to be played, they’re keeping their expectations high.

"A lot of the guys on this team are really good friends,” senior Carson Rosa said. “I think chemistry is going to be another big advantage that we have this year, as far as, you know, playing goes, and being able to trust each other."

West returns to action Saturday at the Morley Stanwood Invitational.
