Big North Leader Cadillac Eyes 1st District Title

CADILLAC – With the MHSAA girls soccer postseason right around the corner, Cadillac has its sights set on winning its first district championship.

The class of the Big North Conference the last three seasons, Cadillac (13-1-1, 7-0-1) is once again in prime standing to win the league title.

Cadillac has had recent postseason success, having appeared in two of its previous three district finals, but fell to Mt. Pleasant in both games, including a 3-1 loss a year ago. The two teams met last Saturday in a possible district final primer, with the Vikings coming out on top 3-1.

“Honestly, I think if we put our minds to it, we can go extremely far,” senior Theresa Clark said. “I’d love to win a district. Our team hasn’t yet, and I think with this team we can.”

“It is super exciting,” senior Hope Emington added. “It’d be awesome to do that for both our school and program, for girls that are watching us, starting at a young age.”

The Vikings will compete in a six-team Division 2 geographic district that features Mt. Pleasant, Bay City Central, Gaylord, Bay City John Glenn and Petoskey. Cadillac will open with a pre-district contest against Gaylord on Tuesday, May 30, with the winner facing Petoskey. The Vikings have handed the Blue Devils a pair of 4-0 losses this spring.

“Each year keeps getting better and better,” senior Lina Meyjes said. “This team absolutely, we work so hard and it shows by all of our scores, so I’m really excited to see where the rest of the season goes.”

Cadillac closes out Big North play by hosting Traverse City Central next Tuesday.
