Flying G’s look to add to trophy case

GLADWIN – The Flying G’s girls soccer program is flying high this spring, thanks in part to a surprising victory over Cheboygan in the Northern Michigan Soccer League Championship Game on May 18th

Gladwin now turns their attention to District play, hoping to add yet another trophy to their collection.

For a team that relies heavily upon underclassmen to contribute, team chemistry has been a major factor in the Flying G’s success.

“I think we know how each other play, and we know where to put the ball with each other,” said sophomore Lauren Seebeck.  “We get along really well.  And I really like coming to practice every day.  It’s a lot of fun with Coach Smalley.”

“They trust each other,” Head Coach Jerome Smally said.  “They play for each other.  A lot of times, I mean, they don’t care who scores.  Lauren’s our leading scorer, but they don’t care.  They just want to score.  They care about the scoreboard more than anything else, and so I think that’s the biggest strength.”

Gladwin opens up District play by visiting Tawas Area on Tuesday evening.
