Glen Lake Hitting Stride Entering Postseason Play

MAPLE CITY – Entering this spring, Glen Lake girls soccer coach Andy Smith wasn’t sure to what expect from his club.

Smith and the Lakers welcomed an eight-member freshmen class to an already talented team.

“This year, it was kind of about bringing those two groups together,” senior Stephanie Purifoy said. “We’ve been gelling really well and we’ve been playing together really well. We all have a really strong technical base.”

The freshmen fit right and have Glen Lake out to a 15-3-2 season and atop the Greater Northwest Soccer Conference standings.

“We know each other because it’s such a small school, but I think mostly what it is, is we’re very similar and like-minded in the way that we play the game,” senior Annie Lively said. “When you work together that well on the field, it’s really easy to find common ground off the field.”

The Lakers will open their postseason stay with a district semifinal on Thursday, June 1, and await the winner of Leland and Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian.
