Lipovsky, Meredith Earn GLIAC Honors

A pair of former northern Michigan prep softball standouts have been honored by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Harrison native and current Grand Valley State sophomore ace Allison Lipovsky was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Year, while Ferris State freshman first baseman and Rogers City native Sarah Meredith was named to the All-GLIAC First Team.

The 2016 GLIAC Freshman of the Year, Lipovsky was named the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week on four occasions this season and posted a 14-3 overall record with 185 strikeouts and eight shutouts.

In her rookie campaign, Meredith led the Bulldogs with a team-best .344 batting average and tallied 22 hits, two home runs, 12 RBIs and 10 runs scored in 64 at-bats. Ferris State ended its season with an 18-23 record.

Lipovsky and the Lakers (32-16) begin their stay in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region tournament Thursday against Southern Indiana.
