T.C. St. Francis Baseball Embraces Top Ranking
TRAVERSE CITY – Last season, Traverse City St. Francis ended its baseball season with a 3-2 loss to Lake City in the Division 3 District Semifinal.
Since that loss, the Gladiators have been on a mission.
“I know it’s been some like 20 years since we’ve been really far,” St. Francis senior Conner Sweet said. “So I think we have the talent to do it, and it would be really nice to maybe come home with a state title.”
With the postseason just around the corner, Traverse City St. Francis has only lost two games, earning themselves the top spot in the Division 3 state rankings.
“St. Francis is used to having a number one football team, and to have a baseball team ranked first in the state is quite an honor,” T.C. St. Francis coach Tom Passinault said.
The Gladiators clinched the Lake Michigan Conference title, thanks in large part to a deep pitching staff and great play up the middle of the diamond.
"It’s pretty exciting to be acknowledged for the success we’ve had this year, but I mean we still have to go out there and win baseball games,” T.C. St. Francis senior Peter McAndrews said. “And everyone gets a fair shot in playoffs, so we’ve just got to do our best."
The Gladiators open up postseason play by hosting its district tournament. They will play Kingsley in the District Semifinal on June 3.
