Beach Bums Snap Skid Against Slammers

TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Beach Bums snapped a three-game skid with an 8-3 win over the Joliet Slammers at Wuerfel Park on Tuesday.

Leading 1-0 through 2 1/2 innings, the Beach Bums (16-18) broke open the game with a three-run third inning, capped off by a Will Kengor home run. In all, Traverse City drilled three home runs on the night.

The Beach Bums tacked on solo insurance runs in the fourth through seventh innings.

Kengor went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs and a run scored while John Montgomery was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Steven Patterson also went 3-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and two runs.

Reinaldo Lopez allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out five over seven innings of work for the win.

Duke von Schamann was tagged with the loss, giving up seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings.

The two teams will continue their three-game series Wednesday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
