Coleman Leads at Michigan Women’s Open

THOMPSONVILLE – Kristin Coleman’s four-under 68 has her in the lead after the opening round of the 24th Michigan PGA Women’s Open at Crystal Mountain Resort’s Mountain Ridge course on Monday.

The Rolling Hills Estates, California resident leads Sarah Hoffman and Marissa Chow by one stroke.

"We play this course shorter than some other courses, like on the Symetra Tour, so it’s a little bit easier, just the length of it, but it was cold and windy today, so I didn’t think scores were going to be super-low,” Hoffman said. “I was putting really well, and I got up and down every time I needed to.  You know, no bogies, so obviously saving myself when I needed to, and hitting a couple of shots close enough to make birdies."

Defending champion Suzy Green-Roebuck finished with an even-par 72 on the first day of the three-day, 54-hole tournament.

Competing as an amateur, Glen Lake graduate sits tied at 36th at two over, while Traverse City’s Taylor Kehoe and Hunter Kehoe sit tied at 89th and 107th, respectively, at nine-over and 16-over par.

Second-round play begins Tuesday morning.
