DeTour Girls Win D3 State Title

GLADSTONE – The DeTour girls golf program captured its first state championship since 1999 on Thursday, winning the Upper Peninsula Division 3 state title at Irish Oaks Golf Course.

Paced by senior Madison Wilkie’s 85, the Raiders shot a 403, besting defending state champion Cedarville by three strokes. Cedarville freshman Lily Freel earned individual medalist honors by shooting an 82, while Wilkie and teammate Kaalin Crawford were second and third with an 85 and 86, respectively.

Engadine finished fifth with a 484, as Lauren Dennis led the way with a 104, while Pickford came home in eighth with a 546.

Mackinac Island eighth-grader Ava Sehoyan also competed as an individual, shooting a 133.

On the boys side, Carney Nadeau won its third straight Division 3 state championship by shooting a 327, while Cedarville finished second after recording a 340.

Cedarville senior Avry Freel finished second overall with a round of 70, while Carney Nadeau’s Hunter Eichorn shot took top honors with a 66.

Engadine came home in seventh with a 504, as Carter Frisch led the way with an 87, while Mackinac Island and DeTour finished ninth and 10th, respectively.
