Grizzlies Snap Beach Bums Win Streak

TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Beach Bums saw their two-game win streak snapped and fell below .500 with a 3-2 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies at Wuerfel Park on Wednesday.

Trailing 2-0 in the third after Gateway’s two-run top half of the inning, Nick Murphy doubled down the left-field line, scoring Giancarlo Brugnoni to bring the Beach Bums (11-12) within one.

The Grizzlies would plate an insurance run in the fourth on an RBI single Matt Hearn, before Murphy drove in Elijah Trail in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly to center field.

Dylan Craig earned the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out six over 5 1/3 innings of work.

Traverse City hitters were held in check for the most part at the plate, tallying five hits while striking out 10 times.

Reinaldo Lopez was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs (one earned) on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings.

The two teams will close out the three-game series Thursday evening. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
