MSU’s Jankoska Coaches at Cadillac Skills Camp

CADILLAC – The Cadillac girls basketball team welcomed former Michigan State standout Tori Jankoska to host a skills basketball camp.

Jankoska, a native of Freeland, Mich., is the all-time leading scorer at Michigan State with 2,212 points in her four year career at the school. She averaged 16.9 points per game and is the first Spartan to reach the 2,000 career-point milestone. She recently signed a one-year deal with team in Poland where she will start her professional career.

For Jankoska, working the camp is a way to give back.

“One of my favorite things about it is coming in and making the little girls’ days, you know?” Jankoska said. “Go home and tell their parents about basketball camp and how much fun they had. So that’s very rewarding for me, too.”

The Cadillac girls basketball team, who won its first regional title in program history last season, was excited to gain tips and knowledge from the basketball legend.

“I have this pamphlet at home, and I read about her. I thought it was amazing how well she did, and I want to be just like her,” sixth grader Makenzie Johns said.

Senior Hannah Emington was also looking forward to learning more about the game from Jankoska.

“I’m just going to ask her a bunch of questions. For me and hopefully the girls can learn stuff from her, too, because this is a really good opportunity,” she said.

Coach Mary Kay Johns viewed Jankoska’s visit as a positive.

“The kids were really, really excited to be able to have her come out to camp and work with them. Unfortunately, it’s just for a day. We’d love to have her all week long, but we’ll take any time we can get with her,” Johns said.

The basketball camp runs all week for girls in grades 2-12. No matter what the age of its participants, Jankoska hopes that it will get the players excited about the sport like it used to for her.

“When I was their age, I was coming to camp. I was getting my shirt signed by all the coaches. It really excited me about basketball,” Jankoska said.
