Ranked Rematch: Inland Lakes, Rogers City Clash in Quarterfinals
GAYLORD – Two of the top four teams in the state will face off Tuesday for a Division 4 state quarterfinal rematch.
The No. 1 ranked Inland Lakes Bulldogs are set to showdown against the No. 4 ranked Rogers City Hurons at Gaylord High School. This isn’t the two teams’ first meeting in the post season as of late, last season the Bulldogs took down the Hurons in the state quarterfinal with a final score of 8-7.
Coming off of a runner-up finish last season, Inland Lakes seeks to defend its regional title against its post-season rival and move deeper into the tournament.
Rogers City is also familiar with performing on the big stage, the Hurons won the Division 4 state championship in 2014 against Kalamazoo Christian.
According to Inland Lakes senior Kimmy Rorick, running into a team like Rogers City was to be expected.
"I’m not at all surprised, they’re a great team. So, it’s going to be a challenge,” Rorick said.
Inland Lakes Head Coach Krissi Thompson is confident in her team’s ability.
"You know, they have such a drive and passion, that it’s just, it’s sky-rocketing,” she said. “They’re on a mission, and they’re not ready to be done until they’ve accomplished that mission."
According to Inland Lakes senior Cloe Mallory, having confidence on the field is key to being victorious.
"It’s always a mental game, trying to tell yourself that you’re more dominant, that you have to play your best out there,” Mallory said. “That’s been the goal for tomorrow, is to be the dominant side of the field and hopefully come out with a win.”
The state quarterfinal game will take place at Gaylord High School at 5 p.m.
