St. Ignace Boys Defend Upper Peninsula D2 Title

IRON RIVER – The St. Ignace boys golf team captured its second straight Upper Peninsula Division 2 state championship on Thursday at George Young Golf Course.

St. Ignace’s Carter Tallaire earned medalist honors, shooting an 80, as the Saints bested host West Iron County by 10 strokes with a 336. Newberry finished third after shooting a 371, while Brimley was 12th with a 468.

Kody Rickley (83), Andy Metz (85), Drew Marshall (88) and Lane Matson (88) also finished in the top 10 for St. Ignace, while Ethan Edwards (88) and Dillon Sears (88) were in the top 10 for Newberry.

On the girls side, Newberry’s Riley Burton finished third overall after recording a 100. St. Ignace’s Lydia Brown and Olivia Champion finished fifth and sixth, respectively after shooting a 104 and 105. Newberry’s Adrian Depew also came home in eighth with a 106.

Munising won the event, shooting a 412, while Crystal Falls Forest Park finished in second with a 500.
