TC St. Francis Introduces New Boys, Girls Coaches

TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City St. Francis introduced Tyler Schell and Sean Finnegan as its new varsity girls and boys basketball coaches, respectively, on Tuesday.

Schell and Finnegan take over for longtime northern Michigan high school basketball coach Keith Haske, who announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season. Haske spent seven seasons at St. Francis.

A 2004 St. Francis graduate, Schell is a special education teacher with the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District. Schell has coached at a variety of levels and previously coached football in Traverse City and Utah.

“I think it’s just something that’s instilled in you when you live it and you come through the program, and it’s always been a draw for me,” Schell said. “The Traverse City community in general is a great community to be a part of, but I’m getting excited to become more familiar with them and make those connections and to continue where Coach Haske left off.”

A Bellaire native, Finnegan graduated from Michigan Tech and is the owner of Finnegan Insurance Agency in Traverse City. Finnegan has spent the previous 10 years as a varsity assistant and JV head coach at Traverse City West.

Both coaches will get to work with their teams this summer, participating in camps and tournaments.
