Whitecaps Push Past Lugnuts

COMSTOCK PARK – A four-run fourth inning propelled the West Michigan Whitecaps to a 7-5 win over the Lansing Lugnuts in Midwest League action Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday.

Trailing 2-1 through three innings, the Whitecaps (47-22) plated six runs over the fourth and fifth innings to pull ahead.

Danny Pinero led West Michigan at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Cole Bauml was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

Alfred Gutierrez allowed four earned on seven hits while striking out five in 5 2/3 innings of work to pick up the win.

Jake Shull gave up two hits and fanned one over the final two innings to earn his first save of the season.

Denis Diaz was tagged for five runs on seven hits over the first 3 1/3 innings to fall to 0-4 on the year.

Bo Bichette went 3-for-5 and scored a pair of runs while Christian Williams was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Lansing (37-31).

The two teams will meet against at 7 p.m. Saturday.
