Beach Bums Fall at Home to CornBelters

TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Beach Bums dropped their second straight contest with a 5-2 loss to the Normal CornBelters at Wuerfel Park on Tuesday.

Trailing 1-0 through 1 1/2 innings, the Beach Bums (23-31) took a 2-1 lead in the second on a double from Nick Murphy and a fielder’s choice groundout by Brook Clark.

A sacrifice fly by Aaron Dudley in the top of the third tied at the game at 3-3, with the CornBelters pushing three runs across the plate between the seventh and ninth innings, including Santiago Chirino’s two-out, two-run triple in the ninth.

Augie Gallardo allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings in the loss. Matt Williams would pitch the final two innings in relief, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks.

Scott Sebald gave up just the two runs on five hits and struck out five over 5 2/3 innings to earn the win for Normal (26-29).

Tuesday’s game was briefly delayed in the top of the ninth due to rain.

The two teams continue their series Wednesday evening. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
