Proulx, Frigon Win AuSable Canoe Marathon
OSCODA – The team of Christophe Proulx and Samuel Frigon edged Steve LaJoie and Guillaume Blais by one second to win the 70th AuSable River Canoe Marathon on Sunday.
Proulx and Frigon recorded a time of 14:18:45, followed shortly by LaJoie and Blais at 14:18:46. For the two champs, it was a huge accomplishment defeating LaJoie and Blais.
“We grow up watching them. I’m 22, he’s 21. They’re kind of our idol,” Proulx said. “We look at them and all those kinds of stuff. When we beat them, it’s such an amazing achievement.”
“It’s just amazing. It’s like we won the Stanley Cup. It’s just an amazing feeling, and we work so hard,” Frigon said.
It’s the second straight year that Proulx has won the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. It is Frigon’s first victory in this event. They are both from Quebec.
