Benzie Central Returns to the Field

BENZONIA – A year after canceling its season following an opening week loss to Mason County Central, Benzie Central is back on the football field.

With low participation numbers and injuries mounting after the loss to Mason County Central, the school made the decision to drop its varsity program for the remainder of the season while still fielding a JV team.

“It makes you value every moment you get that much more,” coach Jason Katt said. “You know, football season is short enough as is, everybody works so hard, just these few weeks and then to have something like that happen, it just makes – it puts everything into a real clear perspective. Let’s just make the most of the moments.”

The Huskies return to the Northern Michigan Football League Legends division this fall and are joined alongside Kalkaska, Traverse City St. Francis, Elk Rapids, Cheboygan, Boyne City, Grayling and Kingsley.

Benzie Central opens its season at Mt. Morris on Thursday, Aug. 24. The Huskies first home is against Traverse City St. Francis on Friday, Sept. 15.
