Elk Rapids Preps for First Season Under Schulte
ELK RAPIDS – After a tough offseason, a new era is set to begin for the Elk Rapids football program.
Keith Schulte has taken the reins of an Elks squad that has struggled in the past two seasons.
Schulte says his first task was to create relationships with the players and then develop their skills. He’s been aided by the fact that the Elks bring back a good percentage of starters from a year ago.
“Good start, I mean, solid start,” Schulte said. “We asked the guys to continue to take every snap as important, to never feel like their champions or loser, just to get back in the huddle and understand that football is not about one play but it is about consistently showing up and taking snap after snap and doing your job every play.”
Elk Rapids fared well in a five-team scrimmage hosted by Mancelona on Thursday. The Elks were joined by Hart, Inland Lakes, Harbor Springs and the hosts.
“I think we did very well, we came out physical, we came out fast. We showed up, we did the right thing,” senior Skyler Campbell said. “We need to stick together as a unit, we need to show up every day, we need to do the right thing.”
Elk Rapids travels to Charlevoix on Friday, Aug. 25.
