Evart ‘Fired Up’ for 2017

EVART – After a two-year absence from the postseason, the Evart football program put together a solid 2016 season, returning to the playoffs on the strength of a 6-3 mark.

Evart rolled in its final two games over Holton and Baldwin to punch its postseason ticket a year ago, before being shut out by Frankfort in a Division 8 pre-district game.

That loss to the Panthers has the Wildcats excited for what 2017 has to offer.

“We want to make playoffs for sure,” senior Caleb Hutchinson said. “We want to win a playoff game and then we just want to make it quite a ways in the playoffs.”

The Wildcats will be looking to replace many of their skill players on offense, but return most of their offensive and defensive lines.

“It’s always better to have experience up front than inexperienced,” coach Pat Craven said. “So we’re hoping that we’re able to learn some lessons last year, and build off of what I felt like was a pretty strong season for our offensive and defensive lines.”

Evart opens its season with consecutive non-conference home games. The Wildcats welcome in Fremont on Friday, Aug. 25, and then host Harrison on Thursday, Aug. 31.
