Kingsley Looks to Get Back to Winning Ways

KINGSLEY – A down year saw the Kingsley football program’s streak of five consecutive winning seasons snapped last fall.

After going 3-6 a year ago, the Stags are looking to return to their winning ways while competing in the highly-competitive Northern Michigan Football League Legends division.

“I think this is one of the toughest leagues in northern Michigan. Smaller schools of course, Class B schools and C schools, but as far as northern Michigan football goes, we play some of the toughest teams around,” coach Jason Leonard said.

Despite being a young team, the Stags bring back a good amount of experience, as coaches and players point to the team speed as a strength his year.

“We got a lot of young guys, and we got a lot of speed,” senior Austin Hindman said. “I think if we can get to that outside edge, and I think we can beat anybody that gets out there with our speed.”

“I think overall it’s going to be a good year,” added senior Garrett Hessem. “We’ve got a lot of depth in our running backs, so it’s going to be good.”

Kingsley welcomes in Glen Lake on Thursday, Aug. 24.
