Montabella Leaning on Experience in 2017
BLANCHARD – After reaching the postseason for the fifth time in school history in 2014, the Montabella football program has struggled, going just 3-15 in the last two seasons.
The Mustangs have good reason to be optimistic this fall, though, as 15 seniors return, with many already having two years of varsity experience under the belts.
“I think we’ve got more heart, and more dedication than previously before, which will definitely help us in the long haul,” senior Jordan Balhorn said. “We got the speed, we got the strength. It’s just the heart, and the leadership that we have that’s really going to take us over the top.”
Thanks to increased depth on the roster, Montabella believes it has an opportunity to challenge for a Mid-State Activities Conference championship and a playoff bid.
“We want to compete for a league championship. We haven’t done that here in a long, long time,” coach Shaun Balhorn said. “We want to qualify for playoffs, and then see what happens from there.”
Montabella opens its season at St. Louis on Thursday, Aug. 24.
