By the Numbers: Week 1 in Review

From an upset in the Northern Michigan Football Legacy to Baldwin’s big win over Grand Traverse Academy, Week 1 of high school football in northern Michigan had more than a few memorable moments.

1 – Brimley posted its first win since Week 8 of the 2013 season, not including a forfeit win over Rock Mid-Peninsula in 2014. After canceling its varsity program last year, the Bays recorded a 26-18 victory over league foe Posen last week.

7 – The number of seasons St. Ignace had gone without recording a conference loss until Inland Lakes pulled off a stunning 27-20 defeat last week. St. Ignace’s last conference loss was to former Straits Area foe Newberry in Week 7 of the 2009 season.

9 – The number of consecutive wins Beal City has recorded over rival Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart. The two teams met for the 52nd and final time last Friday, as the Irish are expected to move to 8-man next fall.

70 – Points scored by Baldwin in a 70-0 win over Grand Traverse Academy last Friday. It marked Baldwin’s first win as an 8-player program.

110 – Combined points scored in Frankfort’s 70-40 victory over Manton last Friday. The Panthers led 26-22 at the half.

500 – Traverse City St. Francis posted its 500th win as a varsity program with a 21-7 victory over Marquette on Friday.
