Rudyard Opens Year 2 of 8-Player Football

RUDYARD – The Rudyard football program is embarking on its second year at the 8-player level.

The Bulldogs went 5-4 in their first season in the Bridge Alliance Conference, opening 2016 with wins in three of their first four games.

“As a whole, our whole coaching staff, has never been in 8-man football before, so as the season went on, we got more comfortable with it,” coach Steve Sawyer said. “This year, it’s a lot more at ease with it. I mean we learned a lot last season. We changed some things. We’re ready to go this year.”

With balanced team speed and the return of four seniors and three other starters, Rudyard will debut a new quarterback this year in Dylan Mills. The junior played at tight end last season.

“It’s a lot of getting used to. I mean one missed tackle can lead to a touchdown,” Mills said. “Your mistakes come more exploited, and you got to take advantage of that.”

Rudyard travels to Cedarville on Thursday, Aug. 24.
