TC Central Eyes Third Straight BNC Title
TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Central football program has found immediate success in its first two seasons under coach Eric Schugars.
With Schugars at the helm, the Trojans have gone 18-3, captured back-to-back Big North Conference championships in undefeated fashion and registered their first playoff win since 2012 a year ago.
“We’re working hard, all for our positions,” senior Dylan Liggett said. “Competition is up there. It’s crazy. Every position has competition. You can’t even name one position, and say there’s not competition for it.”
The Trojans have posted winning records in six of their past seven seasons, but will be looking to fill gaps vacated by key seniors from a season ago.
Central’s coaching staff has been preaching to players that every starting position remains open, as they attempt to raise the competition level.
“We have a plan in place that allows us to be successful,” Schugars said. “Now we’ve just got to follow that. Now you’ve just got to go earn that. You’re not going to be successful just because guys before you were successful. Now you got to go earn that. You do that through competition and work ethic.”
Central welcomes in Bay City Western on Thursday, Aug. 24.
