By the Numbers: Week 3 in Review

Week 3 of the high school football season in northern Michigan saw Brimley continue its longest winning streak in years and Johannesburg-Lewiston snap a losing streak to St. Ignace.

3 – A year after canceling its varsity season, an undefeated Brimley is on its first three-game winning streak since 2004. The Bays went 5-4 that year, which also marked their last winning campaign.

5 – Consecutive losses by Johannesburg-Lewiston against St. Ignace until Friday’s 32-0 win over the Saints. Prior to Friday’s game the Cardinals last win over the Saints was a 30-27 victory in a 2009 Division 8 district final.

15 – The number of area programs that are still undefeated heading into Week 4. Traverse City West, Grant, Morley Stanwood, Lake City, Beaverton, Gaylord St. Mary, Boyne City, Grayling, Kalkaska, Traverse City St. Francis, Brimley, Cedarville, Pickford, Central Lake and Onekama all carry 3-0 records.

22 – Area teams still seeking their first win of the fall. Fremont, Tri-County, Hesperia, White Cloud, Pine River, Ogemaw Heights, Farwell, Gladwin, Vestaburg, Hillman, Mio, Mancelona, St. Ignace, Kingsley, Hart, Shelby, Mason County Central, Bellaire, Charlton Heston Academy, Pellston, Grand Traverse Academy and Big Rapids Crossroads enter Week 4 with 0-3 records.

63- First-half points scored by Beaverton in a 70-6 win over rival Gladwin. The Beavers, who are 3-0, led 63-0 at the half and posted just their second win over the Flying G’s since 1986.

106 – Combined points scored in Manistee Catholic Central’s 64-42 win over Bear Lake on Friday. The win was the first of the year for the year for the Sabers.
