Week 7 of the high school football season in northern Michigan saw five teams reach the postseason and Ogemaw Heights snap a lengthy losing streak.
By the Numbers
5 – The number of teams that reached the postseason last week. Reed City, McBain, Morley Stanwood, Elk Rapids and Frankfort join six other area teams to make the playoffs.
8 – Area teams can make punch their playoff tickets this week. Grant, Harrison, Glen Lake, Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, Newaygo, Newberry, Chippewa Hills and Traverse City Central can all make the postseason with a win.
9 – Undefeated teams remaining. Traverse City West, Lake City, Beaverton, Gaylord St. Mary, Boyne City, Traverse City St. Francis, Pickford, Onekama and Central Lake area all 7-0 entering Week 8.
13 – The number of area teams that are still winless. Fremont, Tri-County, Hesperia, Pine River, Farwell, Mio, Mancelona, Kingsley, Shelby, Charlton Heston Academy, Pellston, Grand Traverse Academy and Big Rapids Crossroads are all seeking their first win in Week 8.
26 – Ogemaw Heights snapped a 26-game losing streak with its 27-14 win over Tawas last Friday.
114 – Combined points scored in Clare’s 68-46 win over Jack Pine Conference foe Sanford Meridian last Friday.
116 – Points scored in Marion’s 62-54 win over Manistee Catholic Central last week. The win capped off a perfect 6-0 West Michigan D League season for the Eagles.
