By the Numbers: Week 9 in Review

5 – Undefeated area teams reaming. Lake City, Boyne City, Pickford, Gaylord St. Mary and Central Lake all enter the postseason at 9-0.

4- Number of area teams that made the playoffs with 5-4 records. Atlanta, Bellaire, Mesick and Hillman.

8 – Area teams that finished the season winless. Grand Traverse Academy, Big Rapids Crossroads, Charlton Heston Academy, Mancelona, Mio, Farwell, Hesperia and Fremont.

25 – Consecutive seasons of .500 or better football by Whittemore-Prescott. The Cardinals secured their fifth win of the season with a 30-24 overtime victory over Pinconning on Friday.

40 – First-half points scored by Pickford in a 53-14 win over Rudyard last Thursday. The win gave Pickford its first unbeaten regular season since 1991.

84 – Points scored by Pellston in its 84-24 victory over Charlton Heston Academy last Thursday. The win was the first for Pellston since a 38-6 win over Brimley on Oct. 9, 2015.

232 – Yards rushing by Harrison’s Hugh Brand in a 36-22 win over Sanford Meridian on Friday. Brand rushed 23 times and scored two touchdowns and three two-point conversions.

1999 – The last season that Beal City did not qualify for the playoffs. The Aggies saw their streak snapped with a 28-12 loss to Chippewa Hills on Friday and finished 4-5.

2003 – The last time Gaylord St. Mary had completed a perfect 9-0 regular season prior to Friday. The Snowbirds won the NMFL Legacy title with a 41-8 win over East Jordan.
