TC West Leads at Division 1 State Finals

ALLENDALE – The Traverse City West girls golf team currently leads the MHSAA Division 1 state finals after the opening day of competition at Grand Valley State’s The Meadows on Friday.

The 2015 state champion Titans shot a 311 and hold a three-stroke lead over second-place Brighton. Saline is in third after recording a 326.

West junior Anika Dy was the top overall individual, carding a 69, while Anci Dy and Megan Jenkinson both shot a 78.

In Division 2 state finals at Battle Creek’s Bedford Valley Golf Course, Petoskey currently sits in 14th place at 386, while Traverse City Central is in 18th after carding a 398. Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern leads the 18-team field after shooting a 327.

Big Rapids sits in 16th place after Day 1 at the Division 3 finals at Michigan State’s Forest Akers West.

The Cardinals finished with a 413, with Macomb Lutheran North leading at 356.

At the Division 4 finals at Forest Akers East, Harbor Springs currently sits in fourth place after shooting a 352.

Almont currently leads after carding a 341, while Shepherd (369) is in sixth, Charlevoix (390) in 12th, Traverse City St. Francis (399) in 14th and Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart (436) in 18th.

Manistee’s Alice Fink-Jensen and Shepherd’s Morgan Yates tied in fourth place individually after shooting an 80, while East Jordan’s Hailey Podskalny (101), Cheboygan’s Grace Lingren (106) and Central Montcalm’s Kayla Daggett (111) area all competing as individuals.
