Undefeated Lake City Looks to Continue Historic Run
LAKE CITY – Lake City’s historic season on the gridiron has seen the Trojans capture their first Highland Conference championship since 1989 and post their first 9-0 record in program history.
The Trojans hosted a playoff selection show viewing party at the high school on Sunday, when they found out they’ll host rival McBain (7-2) in a Division 7 pre-district.
“It kind of really hasn’t sunken in yet just cause it’s, you know it’s the first time it’s ever happened at our school,” coach Kyle Smith said. We played McBain Week 3…It’s going be challenging just because playing the same team two times in one season, it’s never going be the way it was the first time you played. It’s gonna be a tighter game, it’s going be a back and forth type thing, so hopefully we can limit mistakes and move on to Week 11.”
Lake City won its previous meeting with McBain, 28-8, and this week’s winner will face either Ishpeming Westwood (8-1) or Elk Rapids (7-2).
“We were really excited,” senior Jimmy Young said. “Drawing McBain, it’s a really great draw. We beat them once, we can do it again. Just getting to it, it’s going be a dog fight, like coach said.
The date and time of Lake City’s matchup with McBain will be determined on Monday.
