CMU Women Fall to Purdue Despite Dominant First Half
MT. PLEASANT – Despite Reyna Frost’s game-high 23 points and 16 rebounds, the Central Michigan women’s basketball team opened its season with a 79-69 loss to Purdue at McGuirk Area on Friday.
The Chippewas led 37-25 at the half, but were outscored 36-13 in the third quarter.
Presley Hudson and Micaela Kelley both ended their nights in double figures for CMU (0-1), scoring 21 and 12 points, respectively.
CMU shot 42.4 percent (25-of-59) from the floor and outrebounded Purdue (1-0) 39-23.
The Chippewas were on foul trouble throughout the second half, with Purdue going 18-of-25 at the charity stripe. CMU was limited to just nine attempts at the line.
Karrissa McLaughlin led the Boilermakers with 21 points, two rebounds and five assists.
CMU is back on its home court Tuesday, hosting Vanderbilt.
