Gaylord’s Giallombardo Inks with Ohio

GAYLORD – Gaylord senior student-athlete Derek Giallombardo signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his wrestling and academic career at Ohio University.

Giallombardo, an all-stater, joins older brother Trevor, who is starting his redshirt freshman campaign.

“I’m feeling good, just hoping I made the right decision which I feel I did,” Giallombardo said. “I feel like I’m going to be really happy there. I put in a lot of extra hours. My dad, and my parents really pushed me, took me all across the country training in the offseason, and took me to camps and everything. The coaching staff and everything was fantastic and just…we had a really good camaraderie.”

As a junior, Giallombardo finished fourth in the state at 119 pounds and finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 59-4 record. The team captain went 58-6 in 2015-16 and placed fourth in the state at 103 pounds.

Giallombardo is on pace to reach 200 career wins, with a 148-7 career record.
