Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart Sweeps D4 State Titles
BROOKLYN – The Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart boys and girls cross country teams won the MHSAA Division 4 state titles at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday.
The title is the third straight for the Irish girls, as Bailley McConnell and Scout Nelson finished in first and second, respectively, overall. Sacred Heart tallied 39 points, nearly 100 points less than second-place Ubly (138).
Lake Leelanau St. Mary finished in sixth place.
On the boys side, the Irish captured their first state championship since winning the 1977 Class D title.
Sacred Heart finished with 126 points, besting Potterville and Beal City, respectively.
Ellsworth also finished fourth, with East Jordan coming home in sixth.
In the Division 3 girls meet, Hart won its first state title in any sport, with Adelyn Ackley repeating as the individual state champion.
The Pirates placed three runners in the top 10, with Adelyn Ackley, Savannah Ackley and Alayna Ackley.
Benzie Central came home in second, with Clare in fifth, Charlevoix in seventh, Shepherd in eighth and Traverse City St. Francis in ninth.
On the boys side, Hanover-Horton won the event, while Harbor Springs finished in fifth. Jeremy Kloss finished second overall for the Rams.
Shepherd also finished in seventh, with Hart in eighth and Grant in ninth.
Cadillac girls team took home a 15th-place finish in the Division 2 meet, with Petoskey in 19th.
On the boys side, Fremont finished in sixth, with Ben Schmidt taking second place as an individual.
The Traverse City Central girls finished in sixth place in the Division 1 meet, with senior Sielle Kearney coming home in second place overall.
The Traverse City West boys team finished 14th in the Division 1 race, with Traverse City Central in 23rd.
