Mt. Pleasant Trio Sign NLIs

MT. PLEASANT – A trio of Mt. Pleasant senior student-athletes announced their collegiate commitments in a ceremony at the school on Wednesday.

Hannah Carson, Camdyn Odykirk and Gage Shellenbarger all signed a National Letter of Intent with in-state schools.

A catcher on Mt. Pleasant’s softball team, Carson will head to the University of Michigan next fall, with an eye on winning a national championship.

“Well, I’ve been waiting four years for this moment, so I mean it finally feels real, and I can’t believe its next year,” Carson said. “I’m so excited to play for Coach Hutch and just make the program like the best, work my hardest, and hopefully win a national championship.”

Odykirk will attend NCAA Division II Lake Superior State and compete on the Sault Ste. Marie school’s volleyball program.

“I’m really excited that I made a decision,” Odykirk said. “I get to go somewhere, because I really wanted to play volleyball somewhere. Being on a team will be really fun, getting better, because I know I have room to grow still.”

Shellenbarger will stay in Mt. Pleasant and attend Central Michigan while competing for its track and field program.

“Really excited,” Shellenbarger said. “I’m excited I finally got the letter because it’s been really bugging me whether or not I was going to get it and it was super exciting the night I finally got it. So, I’m super happy.”
