Northern Michigan Trio Leads Delta College to National Finish

UNIVERSITY CENTER – A trio of northern Michigan athletes helped lead the Delta College women’s soccer program to a third-place finish nationally this past weekend.

Sophomore defender Delaney Gravlin (Cheboygan), freshman midfielder Hope Emington (Cadillac) and sophomore midfielder Nicole Hill (Elk Rapids) led the Pioneers (15-2-2) to a third-place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Women’s Soccer Championship in New York.

After finishing runner-up in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association standings, Delta won an NJCAA Region XIX tournament title and opened the national tournament with a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Madison (Wis.) College.

The Pioneers would then fall to top-seed Herkimer County (N.Y.) Community College (4-3) before rebounding for a shootout victory (2-1) over No. 10 Rowan College (NJ.) at Gloucester County. Emington and Gravlin both scored in the shootout.

Hill ended her 2017 campaign with eight points on eight assists over 19 games, while Emington tallied four points on a goal and two assists over 18 contest. Gravlin also posted three assists in 19 games played.
