The Road to Ford Field: Pewamo-Westphalia Ends Lake City’s Historic Year

CLARE – Lake City’s historic season on the gridiron came to a conclusion with a 51-8 loss to defending state champion Pewamo-Westphalia in a Division 7 state semifinal at Clare on Saturday.

The Trojans had three costly turnovers in the opening half, as they trailed 14-0 after one quarter and 28-0 at the half.

With the loss, Lake City ends its season at 12-1.

The 2017 season saw a number of firsts in Lake City, as the Trojans won their first Highland Conference championship since 1989 and their first-ever regional title with a 20-18 win over Breckenridge last Saturday.

Along the way, Lake City picked up postseason wins over McBain and Ishpeming Westwood, as the three playoffs wins are one shy of the program’s all-time postseason win total.
