TC Central Rallies to Beat TC West for First District Title

TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Central football team captured its first district title with a come-from-behind 17-14 victory over rival Traverse City West on Friday.

The win gives Central its first Division 2 district championship and first postseason title of any form since winning the 1988 Class A state championship.

The Trojans took a 3-0 lead to the second quarter, with the Titans holding a 7-3 lead at the half.

Tobin Schwannecke was 13-of-30 passing for 156 yards and a touchdown for Central (8-3) while rushing 18 times for 103 yards and the game-winning score with 1:59 remaining in regulation.

West ends its season at 9-2.

Central will now face Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central (11-0) for a regional title next week. Forest Hills Central handed Muskegon Mona Shores a 28-21 loss on Friday.
