Glen Lake’s Galla Headed to MHSSCA Hall of Fame

MAPLE CITY – Veteran Glen Lake softball coach Gary Galla will be inducted into the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January.

The head varsity softball coach since 2003, Galla has coached at Glen Lake for 23 years. Beginning his coaching career with the Lakers as an assistant coach with the varsity baseball team in 1994, Galla then coached the JV baseball program from 1995-2002 and was the offensive coordinator with the varsity football team from 2012-2016. He also has coached the JV football program from 2005-2011 and 2017-present.

In 15 seasons, Galla has compiled a varsity softball record of 289-219, with five conference championships and three district championships, In addition, Galla has been named District Coach of the Year on three occasions and coached the 2015 Division 4 All-Star game. He also has served as a volunteer board member of the MHSSCA since 2008 and currently serves as the board’s treasurer and membership chairman.

Galla’s program has earned Team Academic All-State honors for 14 consecutive years and 40 players have been named Individual Academic All-State honorees. In addition, 22 athletes have been named All-State, with eight taking part in Division 4 All-Star games.

The MHSSCA’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for Friday, Jan. 26, at the MHSSCA softball clinic in Lansing.
