MT. PLEASANT – Powered by a 15-0 run to start the second half, the Central Michigan men’s basketball team opened Mid-American Conference play with a 75-50 win over Ohio at McGuirk Arena on Tuesday.

David DiLeo led all scorers with a 22 points, while teammate Cecil Williams tallied 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Shawn Roundtree and Luke Meyer joined DiLeo and Williams in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Chippewas (12-2, 1-0) took a 37-31 lead at the half and held the Bobcats scoreless for the opening 5:55 of the second half.

“Watching Ohio, coming into this game wasn’t enjoyable,” CMU coach Keno Davis said. “You saw how many points they scoring, and how good they could be in a game, and I was really proud of guys.”

CMU shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the floor and outrebounded Ohio 44-35.

Mike Laster paced Ohio (7-6, 0-1) with 19 points.

“I think this was a good way to start MAC play, the way we held them to 50 points, and we executed on offense,” Williams said. “I think it just shows where we are headed in the future.”

CMU continues MAC play Saturday at Kent State. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
