Coaches’ Profile: Montabella’s Shaun Balhorn

EDMORE – As the high school wrestling regular season continues to wind down, the Montabella wrestling program finds itself contending for a conference title.

At 17-8 and 4-0 in the Central Michigan Athletic Conference, the Mustangs have already bested their 2016-17 record (15-13) by four wins and have their sights set on a winning a district championship after falling short to St. Louis in a district final a year ago.

Longtime coach Shaun Balhorn is in his 21st season at Montabella and joined an elite group of coaches last season by recording his 400th career win. Balhorn entered the 2017-18 season with a 409-192 career record.

Under Balhorn’s tutelage, Montabella wrestlers have claimed two Division 4 individual state titles and two more have finished as runners-up.
