Dockery Makes History as Baldwin Races Past Walkerville
BALDWIN – Blake Dockery scored his 1,000th career point and the Baldwin boys basketball team rolled to 77-62 league win over Walkerville on Thursday.
Dockery entered the game 26 points shy of 1,000 and joined his mother, JaNel Williams, a 1997 Baldwin graduate, in scoring 1,000 career points. They are the first mother-son duo in school history to both eclipse 1,000 points.
“I was off. And then, I finally got my rhythm, and my teammates helped me out with that one,” Dockery said. “It’s an exciting feeling. I’ve been waiting on this my whole life, and it’s finally here.”
The Panthers (6-3, 5-1) held a 36-26 lead at the half and led 52-39 after three quarters.
“When they told him he needed 26, it was just like I knew it put a lot of pressure on him, so I’m just so happy that he kinda just relaxed in the fourth quarter, and kinda made it happen,” Williams said.
Baldwin visits Manistee Catholic Central on Wednesday, while Walkerville (6-4, 4-2) hosts Bear Lake.
