Hankins Leads Ferris State Men Past Northwood

BIG RAPIDS – Charlevoix native Zach Hankins scored 20 points and the third-ranked Ferris State men’s basketball team won for the 10th straight time with an 88-60 win over Northwood on Thursday.

The Bulldogs, who moved to 12-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, trailed throughout most of the opening half before taking a 37-35 lead to the locker room.

Markese Mayfield and Drew Cushingberry joined Hankins in double figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

The Bulldogs held a 50-38 edge in rebounds and shot 45.9 percent (34-of-74) from the floor.

David Jelinek led the Timberwolves with 14 points, while Big Rapids native and freshman Demitri Martin tallied eight points and six rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.

Ferris State (22-1) is back in action Saturday against Saginaw Valley State. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
