Lions Use Franchise Tag on Ansah

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions became the second team to use its franchise tag during the 2018 offseason on Tuesday, using the tag on defensive end Ziggy Ansah.

The fifth pick overall out of Brigham Young in 2013 NFL draft, Ansah, 28, recorded 12 sacks and 39 total tackles in 14 games last season. In five seasons with Detroit, Ansah tallied 155 tackles, 44 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

The franchise tag is reportedly worth $17.5 million, which will make Ansah the highest-paid defensive end in the NFL.
