Petoskey Boys Win 8th Straight D2 Title

BELLAIRE – The Petoskey boys ski program captured its eighth straight MHSAA Division 2 state championship at Shanty Creek’s Schuss Mountain on Monday.

The Great North Alpine co-op finished behind Petoskey, while Benzie Central was in fourth and Cadillac in sixth.

Cadillac’s Alex Netzley captured the giant slalom title with a combined run of 49.51. Great North Alpine’s Finn Husband finished in third (50.22), while Petoskey’s Ethan Siegwart was fourth (50.38) and Husband’s teammate Cooper Kerkhof in fifth (50.79).

Husband took the slalom title (58.92) while Siegwart came home in second (1:00.57). Netzley finished in third and Benzie Central’s Gabe Johnson was fourth.

On the girls side, Gaylord’s Reagan Olli won the slalom and finished second in the giant slalom. Houghton/Hancock won the state title, with Petoskey finished in fifth and Cadillac in eighth.

In the Division 1 meet at Boyne Mountain, the Marquette boys team won its sixth straight title, as Traverse City Central finished in second.

On the girls side, Marquette won its third straight title, besting Traverse City West and Traverse City Central, respectively.
