Bronkema, Hankins Recognized with National Accolades

Ferris State men’s basketball’s Andy Bronkema has been named the NCAA Division II Coach of the Year by Basketball Times.

A McBain native, Bronkema, in his fifth season as head coach, has led the Bulldogs to a 35-1 record and its first NCAA Division II Midwest Region title and Elite Eight appearance since 1988.

Ferris State junior center and Charlevoix native Zach Hankins has also been named second team All-America for the second consecutive year. At 6-10, Hankins averages 14.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.4 blocked shots per game.

Ranked second nationally, Ferris State will face Barry (Fla.) in an NCAA Division II Elite Eight quarterfinal Tuesday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
