Cheboygan Boys Fall in D3 Bowling State Semis

MUSKEGON – The Cheboygan boys bowling team fell in the semifinals of the MHSAA Division 3 state finals at Muskegon’s Northway Lanes on Friday.

The Chiefs finished second in the team qualifying portion of the tournament and edged Canton Prep in the quarterfinals, 1,175-1,170. Cheboygan then lost to eventual state runner-up Corunna in the semifinals, 1,125-1,108. Jonesville defeated Corunna in the final.

On the girls side of the tournament, Cheboygan and Gladwin finished in seventh and eighth, respectively, losing to Birch Run and Alma. Central Montcalm also finished in 12th. Alma won the event.

In the Division 2 boys finals at Canton’s Super Bowl, Cadillac qualified third and fell to six-seed Coldwater 1,328-1,310 in the quarterfinals. Battle Creek Pennfield won the state title.

In Division 4 at Battle Creek’s M-66 Bowl, Rogers City finished in eighth, falling to eventual state champion Vandercook Lake 1,216-1089 in the quarterfinals. Traverse City Christian and Lakeview finished in 13th and 14th, respectively, with Beaverton coming home in 16th.

On the boys side, Houghton Lake finished in seventh, falling to Ishpeming Westwood in the quarterfinals, while Rogers City came home in ninth after losing to St. Charles in a roll-off to determine the eighth and final qualifier. Bronson won the state title.
